As a follow-on to the Bitcoin posting of November 24, I thought it would be helpful, for reference sake, to see a visual of the total amount of US Dollars in circulation (as measured by M2) v. the global total amount of mined/above ground Gold v. the total amount of mined Bitcoin v. the total economic output of the US in 2019 (GDP) v. the total market capitalization (total shares X share price) for the top 5 tech stocks (Apple + Microsoft + Amazon + Alphabet/Google + Facebook)
Notes:
- Total US Dollars in circulation (M2) is from the St. Louis Federal Reserve, October 2020
- Total mined Gold is estimated to be 200,000 metric tons @ $1800/oz
- Total mined Bitcoin is 18,557,000 @ $17,686/btc
- 2019 GDP is from the Federal Reserve
- The combined value of the top 5 tech stocks are based on November 2020 share prices and shares outstanding
